“The art of painting with light in a long exposure” was on the agenda again this year. The big Lightpainting Meet-Up and Workshop weekend was held in 2021 at the end of August. ZOLAQ, a professional light painter together with his team organized this great event again.
I was there again. Anyone interested was not allowed to dawdle when buying tickets. Within a very short time there were no more tickets. According to ZOLAQ, nine minutes passed from the time of activation to the last card. Unbelievable! This makes his 2021 Meet-Up weekend the fastest selling event from his series.
I also met familiar faces again this year. Nico and Tobias were among the lucky participants who were able to purchase a ticket. The three of us formed a team, with the motto “Lightpainting is #BULBfiction”. Nico, Tobias and I gathered different experiences in the field of lightpainting in the past. And that’s what made this team so special. Because each of us one thing particularly easy. This allowed us to show each other tips and tricks to draw figures more effectively or cleanly with our tools.
For the first time, ZOLAQ has extended the Meet-Up weekend by one night. That took the stress out of the nights for us. So we sometimes got up to five hours of sleep between the nightly activities.
During that time we tried many new characters, experimented with other tools, developed new ideas during the day and realized again at night that the nights will be much too short if we try to implement all the ideas.
Bottom line, ZOLAQ’s 2021 Meet-Up Weekend was a tremendous event as well. I was able to make new contacts, learn to work with new tools and was allowed to pursue a hobby for 72 hours, light painting.
The usual group picture for the festival of ZOLAQ was created on Saturday. Each participant was asked to contribute to the group picture with a pen flashlight. The direction instructions came from ZOLAQ. In the second attempt we had the picture in the box.
53 participants created the following picture with a recording time of about 13 minutes. The picture is shrill, extremely colorful and full of joy.
It describes what lightpainting is: joy.
